SG.2tb 2nd Day of Issue dated May 7th 1840 1d Black Cover Plate 1a (CJ) from Vere Street, London to Wakefield in Yorkshire and arriving 8th May 1840. This cover is recorded in the May Dates Book. The stamp was separated by vertical tearing as was often the case them being cut into strips with scissors and then individual stamps being torn off. The stamp on this cover having been separated in this way. A very scarce item and unusual on a tiny envelope, usually being on a wrapper or entire. SG Cat from £20,000
